Briefing the Council on the elimination of the Syrian Arab Republic’s chemical weapons programme, a top UN official of the Office for Disarmament Affairs said, “as of the date of this month’s report, the Syrian Arab Republic has yet to provide sufficient technical information or explanations that would enable the OPCW Technical Secretariat to close the issue related to the detection of a Schedule 2 chemical at the Barzah facilities of the SSRC in November 2018.” UNIFEED

The UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu, said that small arms and light weapons “are the weapons of choice in initiating, sustaining and exacerbating conflict, armed violence, terrorism and other forms of organized crime.” UNIFEED
