At the opening of the COP26 Summit in Glasgow, UN chief Antonio Guterres called for greater ambition on mitigation and immediate concrete action to reduce global emissions by 45 per cent by 2030. He told world leaders, “Enough treating nature like a toilet,” adding, “We are digging our own graves.” UNIFEED

Talking to reporters, Secretary-General António Guterres said, “we cannot walk head on, eyes wide open, into a debt crisis that is foreseeable and preventable,” and stressed that “developing countries urgently need access to additional liquidity, to respond to the pandemic, and to invest in a sustainable and inclusive recovery.” UNIFEED

With many countries continuing to struggle to overcome the human and economic devastation from COVID-19, UN Secretary-General António Guterres noted that “many developing countries cannot invest in recovery and resilience, because of financing constraints,” and stressed that “the global community must urgently provide the necessary support to all developing countries in need.” UNIFEED
