The United Nations has started pumping oil off the decaying vessel FSO Safer, moored off Yemen’s Red Sea coast, averting a potential spill and environmental disaster, UN officials informed. UNIFEED

Briefing the Security Council, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said that, despite the expiry of the truce, the Yemenis continue to feel the benefits from the longest period of relative calm since the beginning of the conflict. UNIFEED

United Nations officials in New York and in Yemen gave details on the arrival of a support ship to start the process of transferring out the oil from the FSO Safer super tanker, moored off Yemen’s Red Sea coast, to another vessel. UNIFEED
