STORYLINE
As the conflict continues in Sudan, hundreds of thousands of people in desperate need of safety and protection are crossing the border to neighboring countries.

In Chad, over 192,00 refugees have arrived in the country’s east since the start of the Sudan crisis.

Most new arrivals are fleeing conflict in Darfur, a region in Sudan deeply impacted by violence and experiencing increasing instability.

UNHCR and its partners have been working closely with the Chadian government, providing support and coordinating the emergency response to address the needs of the newly arrived refugees.

With the onset of the rainy season, many refugees struggle to shelter from the rain.

UNHCR and partners are building shelters, latrines, and showers at various sites.

Before this crisis, Chad already hosted about 588,770 refugees.

Despite the enormous needs, the humanitarian response to these dire and complex crises still needs to be funded.

Vulnerable refugees are missing out on critical life-saving assistance, plunging deeper into poverty and hunger, thereby increasing their vulnerability to protection risks.
