“Pakistan is facing a perfect storm of crises. The economic situation is nothing short of a disaster for particularly for the bottom of the pyramid, the weakest, the poorest in Pakistani society. Those affected by the flooding, are facing the burden of this more than anybody else, which is why we insist and we request from international financial institutions to cooperate with Pakistan appropriately so that we could provide the necessary relief to our people.”

The Chair of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, told reporters, “Islamic rights enshrine women's rights, that there is no space for groups such as those in Afghanistan or anywhere else to claim that Islam justifies their actions.”

Foreign Minister of Pakistan Bilawal Bhutto Zardari spoke to reporters today (10 Mar) in his capacity as the Chair of OIC's Council of Foreign Ministers. He said that the OIC on Women in Islam is “a strong message” that “the consensus in the Muslim world, we unanimous that women have a right to an education and those that are depriving their rights. them with these rights are actually doing so in direct conflict with the religion of Islam.”

Asked about the economic situation in his country, Ambassador Zardari answered in his national capacity. He said, “Pakistan is facing a perfect storm of crises. The economic situation is nothing short of a disaster for particularly for the bottom of the pyramid, the weakest, the poorest in Pakistani society. Those affected by the flooding, are facing the burden of this more than anybody else.”

Earlier today, a Special High-level Event were held to commemorate the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

The meeting, chaired by the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari promoted collective action by the international community to combat xenophobia, intolerance and incitement to violence on the basis of any religion or belief.

On 15 March 2022, the General Assembly adopted resolution 76/254 designating 15 March as the International Day to combat Islamophobia. This resolution invites all Member States, relevant organizations of the United Nations system, other international and regional organizations, and civil society, private sector and faith-based organizations to observe the International Day in an appropriate manner.
