5. SOUNDBITE (English) Lana Nusseibeh, Permanent Representative to the United Nations, the United Arab Emirates:
“We thought it was important to convene this meeting, as the President of the Council has said in order to keep the Council abreast of developments. We had a briefing from the Middle East Special Representative Tor Wennesland and and he gave us a concerning overview of the fact that a lack of political horizon is causing a continual cycle of violence and reprisals on the ground. And the Council members all spoke with one voice in the room urging de-escalation, urging no further unilateral actions to be taken, urging the protection of civilians as is required under the Fourth Geneva Convention.”

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer to the United Nations, Palestine:
“We will keep pushing in the Security Council to act in accordance with the power given to it in the Charter of the United Nations. Again, we are grateful for all those who have been pushing for practical steps in that direction. We will never give up.”
