STORYLINE
During his mission to the Central African Republic (CAR), the Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean Pierre Lacroix, met with the UN peacekeepers in the country.
The visit was attended by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Valentine Rugwabiza, the Force Commander of United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), General Birame Diop, General Daniel Sidiki Traore and his deputy, General Pedro Miguel Alves Gonçalves Soares, the Commander of the Bangui Integrated Force, Brigadier General Alognime Takougnadi.
Lacroix said that he visited the Blue Helmets of Portugal and the Kingdom of Bhutan to meet “our colleagues on the ground, of course, to see the progress that is being made to improve the camps, to build new camps, to ensure that our male and female personnel have the best possible living conditions.”
He added that the meeting with the Portuguese and Bhutanese contingents was also an occasion “to thank them for their work, to congratulate them for all they do, and to wish them good luck and, at the end of the year, all the best for next year, for them and their families.”
