"We will work in total transparency in the coming weeks, as we have done until now, with the Malian authorities when we present the recommendations. We will be able to do so with the assurance that the Malian authorities will recognize themselves in the objectives and the priorities that we will put forward, and then it will be up to the Member States and the Security Council to decide, and it is therefore important both to ensure our convergence with the Malian authorities on the main objectives, because it is obviously first and foremost a matter of helping Mali; it is also to ensure that our Member States will be able to support our work and our recommendations. This was the gist of our discussions which were very frank, very cordial and I thank the President."

STORYLINE
As part of his working visit to Bamako, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General, UN Peace Operations, paid on Tuesday a courtesy visit to the Malian transition President, Assimi Goita, in the framework of the ongoing MINUSMA strategic review.

In accordance with the request of the UN Security Council, the configuration of the Mission is to be redefined in agreement with the Malian authorities.

This 48-hour visit was also marked by working sessions with members of the government, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop.

The implementation of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement as well as the security situation in the country were also points of discussion during these meetings.
