STORYLINE
Counting down to the 2022 World Cup, the State of Qatar today (17 Sep) launched the Scoring for the Goals campaign, stressing the value of football for promoting sustainable development, peace, tolerance, inclusion, and climate action.

In the presence of Secretary-General António Guterres and and high-level dignitaries of the other 31 teams that have qualified for the World Cup 2022, the launch consisted of a video projection on the East Side and Secretariat building of the UN headquarters, introducing the seventeen SDGs, outlining the pertinent topics through compelling images and narrative.

The film aims to communicate that on November 20th, the world will come together to witness the power of football as a tool to promote peace and development, respect human rights, achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women, girls, and young people, and address climate change.

This will be the first World Cup ever held in the Middle East and Arab region.
