STORYLINE
Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh, alongside youth activists and peacekeepers, on Tuesday (9 Aug) took part in a tree-planting event for Mongolia’s One Billion Trees campaign.

This campaign is one of the things Mongolia is doing to address climate change and desertification of its land.

Addressing the youth activists, he said, “my generation declared war on nature, with climate change, with the lost biodiversity, with pollution. And nature is striking back, striking back with storms with desertification, with floods, with disasters that are making life very difficult for many people around the world and causing many victims. Your generation has an important task: to make peace with nature.”

The Secretary-General also visited a nomadic family and learned about their way of life, and he also met a group of beneficiaries from UN projects, including women entrepreneurs and youth activists.
