UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu, told the Security Council "due to the identified gaps, inconsistencies and discrepancies that remain unresolved, the Technical Secretariat continues to assess that, at this stage, the declaration submitted by the Syrian Arab Republic cannot be considered accurate and complete in accordance with the Chemical Weapons Convention.” UNIFEED

Addressing the Security Council today (20 Jul) in New York, Nakamitsu said “full cooperation by the Syrian Arab Republic with the OPCW Technical Secretariat is essential to closing all outstanding issues.”
She urged the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic to “cooperate with the OPCW Technical Secretariat as set out in paragraph 7 of Article VII of the Chemical Weapons Convention and to facilitate arrangements for the deployment of the DAT in accordance with paragraph 7 of Security Council resolution 2118, including by allowing immediate and unfettered access for all personnel designated by the OPCW Secretariat as soon as possible.”
