"Tor Wennesland, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, strongly condemned the killing of Al-Jazeera’s reporter, Shireen Abu Aqla, who was shot with live fire this morning while covering an Israeli operation in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank. He sent his deepest condolences to her family and wished a speedy recovery to her fellow journalist who was injured in the incident.
Mr. Wennesland called for an immediate and thorough investigation and for those responsible to be held accountable. Media workers should never be targeted, he said."

The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, called for an “immediate and thorough investigation” on the killing of Al-Jazeera’s reporter “and for those responsible to be held accountable.”

Speaking to reporters in New York today (11 May), Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General Farhan Haq said that Tor Wennesland strongly condemned the killing of Shireen Abu Aqla, who was shot with live fire this morning while covering an Israeli operation in Jenin, in the occupied West Bank.

Wennesland sent his deepest condolences to her family and wished a speedy recovery to her fellow journalist who was injured in the incident.

“Media workers should never be targeted,” he said.
