STORYLINE
The fifth and last day of in-person meeting of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) organized by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) took place on Friday (2 Jul) in Switzerland in the vicinity of Geneva.

The meeting represented an opportunity for the members of the LPDF to further develop proposals on the constitutional basis to hold national parliamentary and presidential elections in December 2021.

While awaiting an official press release from UNSMIL detailing the outcome of the dialogue, the UN spokesperson in New York Stephane Dujarric told reporters “what we want is that all the Libyan actors work together for the sake of the people of Libya.”

Asked about a possible no decision outcome of the dialogue and its eventual impact on the Libyan national elections, set for December this year, Dujarric said “we do have some time until December and we will continue to do whatever we can to work with the Libyan parties to ensure that these elections take place in an open, transparent and credible atmosphere.”
