“President Trump’s statement reaffirms the United States’ blind bias towards the Israel occupation and its unlimited support for its aggressive behaviour. It clearly reflects the contempt of the United States for the international legitimacy, and its flagrant violation of its resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981 unanimously adopted by the Members of the Security Council, including the United States itself.”

“We reaffirm that the American administration does not have any right or authority which allows it to determine the fate of the occupied Syrian Arab Golan, and that any recognition or any measure taken against the right of the Syrian Arab Republic to regain that occupied territory and its sovereignty over it is an aggressive, provocative, and illegal act which has no effect.”

7. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Bashar Jaafari, Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations:
“It has become clear to the international community that the United States, through its arrogant policies, constitutes the main factor in creating tension on the international stage and threatening international peace and stability. It has also become clear that American foreign policy is currently consecrating the era of extremism in international political relations and returning humanity to the times of the law of the jungle and the stone age which sanctifies fire and its ignitors and views humanity as a fuel to its flames.”

“These Administration policies and actions are nothing but a recipe for more wars and escalation at a time that the world needs to resort to diplomacy in order to preserve and achieve our common goal of peace and security and not vice-versa.”

STORYLINE
Syrian ambassador Bashar Jaafari said President Donald Trump’s tweet on the occupied Golan “reaffirms the United States’ blind bias towards the Israel occupation and its unlimited support for its aggressive behaviour.”

Speaking to reporters in New York today (22 Mar), Jafaari said the US Administration did not have “any right or authority which allows it to determine the fate of the occupied Syrian Arab Golan.” He reaffirmed that “any recognition or any measure taken against the right of the Syrian Arab Republic to regain that occupied territory and its sovereignty over it is an aggressive, provocative, and illegal act which has no effect.”

Yesterday news outlets reported a tweet by US President Donald Trump in which he said it was time for his country to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which Israel has occupied since 1967.

The Syrian ambassador said Trump’s statement “clearly reflects the contempt of the United States for the international legitimacy, and its flagrant violation of its resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981 unanimously adopted by the Members of the Security Council, including the United States itself.”

Jaafari added, “It has become clear to the international community that the United States, through its arrogant policies, constitutes the main factor in creating tension on the international stage and threatening international peace and stability.” He stressed that US foreign policy was currently “consecrating the era of extremism in international political relations and returning humanity to the times of the law of the jungle and the stone age which sanctifies fire and its ignitors and views humanity as a fuel to its flames.”

The Syrian ambassador said the US was at war with the world, including its own allies. He said, “These Administration policies and actions are nothing but a recipe for more wars and escalation at a time that the world needs to resort to diplomacy in order to preserve and achieve our common goal of peace and security and not vice-versa.”

Jaafari underscored that such statements only strengthen Syrian resolve to regain the Golan by all means necessary, including by force. He added, “When you have no other choice but using force to get back your rights, it’s your duty. The Syrian Golan has been occupied since 1967, and we will not wait until Mr. Trump and his administration change their mind. This is our territory, and we will get it back sooner or later.”
