“We are very happy as patients in this hospital today we receive some blankets, mosquito nets because like at this time in Bentiu it’s a cool weather and we are happy that we received these blankets and mosquito nets as there is also mosquitoes in this place.”

“Just a smile on the ladies face is a lot for us they are really thankful they say it is one of the kind that is never happened in Bentiu. They don’t even know about UN volunteers and we are trying to tell them what we are doing. So, on my part as a UN Volunteer, I am proud and excited about this activity.”

STORYLINE
United Nations Volunteers working in South Sudan’s northern town of Bentiu today (5 Dec) visited patients at Bentiu’s State Hospital where they distributed non-food items as part of commemorating the International Volunteers Day.

International Volunteers Day is marked annually on 5 December.

Under the theme building resilient communities, those that received the items expressed delight.

SOUNDBITE (English) Nyakuma Chot, Female Patient:
“We are very happy as patients in this hospital today we receive some blankets, mosquito nets because like at this time in Bentiu it’s a cool weather and we are happy that we received these blankets and mosquito nets as there is also mosquitoes in this place.”

For the Volunteers, this was a proud moment.
