The first-ever TEDx taking place in a refugee camp, was held Saturday (9 Jun) in Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, The event, which was livestreamed to audiences around the world, offered a different lens into the reality of life as a refugee, away from the images of devastation and suffering, and towards stories of resilience, of contribution and creativity. Among the speakers was also the Governor of Turkana, whose community accepted 185,000 refugees.

TEDxKakumaCamp which was livestreamed to audiences around the world was curated by Melissa Fleming and Dana Hughes with support from the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and volunteer teams.
