STORYLINE
Following a Security Council meeting on the alleged chemical attack in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta last Saturday, Russian ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Alekseevich Nebenzia told reporters his country has “footage – coverage of people speaking of how the accident was actually staged” as well as “other video material that we would be willing to provide to the general public.”
Nebenzia said videos are “a proof of a fake [news] that was used for very dangerous purposes.”
Referring to the UN Secretary-General’s remarks during the Council’s meeting who said the “Cold War is back with vengeance” Russian ambassador said “Unfortunately, we are witnessing that the situation is developing very dangerously and the proper lines of communications, the proper communication that existed in more dangerous time does not exists today.”
If confirmed, the alleged chemical attack from 7th April on the town of Douma, would be the largest such attack since April last year, when a nerve agent was dropped on Khan Sheikhoun, killing 85 people.
