STORYLINE
A commemorative ceremony in honor of the two blue helmets killed during recent events in the Central African Republic took place today at the MINUSCA headquarters in Bangui in the presence of Under Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, and African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security Smaïl Chergui on a joint visit in the country.

SOUNDBITE (French) Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, United Nations:
"It is with sadness that I am here with you for a tribute ceremony to two of ours, two brothers, two brave young men in the prime of life, who came with enthusiasm, courage and determination, to help their brothers and sisters of the Central African Republic and who, in the exercise of this noble task, have been killed by murderous bullets of those who refuse peace in this beautiful country, the Central African Republic."

The Second Class Nouh Mahmoud, of Mauritania, died on 3 April during a clash with an armed group in Tagbara, in the center of the country. Sergeant Jean Bosco Ategekimana of Rwanda died on 10 April during a shootout with armed elements in the PK5 zone in Bangui.
