"UNEF troops are now in position in all camps and centers of population in the Gaza Strip". This communiqué issue today by Gen. Burns, Commander of UNEF, added that the movement into Gaza had been carried out according to plan and without incidents. A long column of Danish, Norwegian, Indian, Colombian and Swedish troops of UNEF started to move into the strip, past an Israeli checkpoint, yesterday evening, during a sandstorm that was followed by rain squalls. Later, Gen. Dayan, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, handed over control of the city of Gaza to Col. Walter Lindqvist, of the UN Force, and the Israeli units started their withdrawal across the border. Tonight, UNEF was in full control of the Gaza Strip.
