Visit to Units of the UN Emergency Force (UNEF) in Egypt
On December 10, the strength of the force in Egypt had passed the 3,500 mark. The Force, which is made up of contingents from Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, India, Norway, Sweden and Yugoslavia, had units in the Abu Suweir transit camp near Ismailia, the El Ballah assembly centre south of Qantara, the El Cap buffer zone to the north, the Sinai peninsula and the Port Said-Port Fouad area.
This picture is part of a series taken earlier this month, during visits by correspondents to units of the UN Emergency Force. Taken at Abu Suweir, it shows men of the Colombian contingent helping themselves to hot food for their midday meal. They all wear blue-painted helmets and "United Nations" armbands to identify them as members of the UN Force.
