The Tupea Tamesese, one of the two Fautuas (highest chiefs) of the Western Samoa, and member of the Samoan Council of State, today visited United Nations Headquarters.
The Fautua (center), occupying the seat of the President of the Trusteeship Council, uses the gavel presented to the Council by Western Somoa. With the Fautua are (l. to r.): Mrs. Tamesese; Dr. Victor Hoo, Assistant Secretary-General of the U.N. in charge of the Department of Trusteeship and Information from Non-Self-Governing Territories; B. Aleksander, Deputy Director of the Division of Trusteeship; T. Cowan, of Rarotonga, Western Samoa; Ralph J. Bunche, Director of the Division of Trusteeship; and Mrs. Cowan, whose title is "Makea Nui Teremoana Ariki" is a member of the Rarotonga Island Council, and one of the leading "Arikis" of the Territory.
