MONUSCO Force Intervention Brigade Launches Strikes on M23 Positions
Brigadier General James Aloizi Mwakibolwa, Commander of the Force Intervention Brigade (FIB) of the UN Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), on the Munigi hill front line as FIB launches first artillery strikes on positions of the group known as M23 (23 March Movement). Established by the Security Council in March 2013, the brigade – which is be based in North Kivu province and totals 3,069 peacekeepers – is tasked with neutralizing armed groups such as the M23, reducing the threat posed to state authority and civilian security and making space for stabilization activities.
