The Teaching Hospital in El Geneina, West Darfur, has treated more than one hundred cases of yellow fever since the disease began to spread one month ago. The Sudanese Ministry of Health is working closely with the African Union-UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), UN agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to distribute vaccines and implement awareness campaigns on the epidemic, which has no precedent in the region.
Hospital staff are inoculated against yellow fever before seeing patients.
