The second Permanent Forum on People of African Descent started Tuesday in New York. The theme of the session is "Realizing the dream: A United Nations Declaration on the promotion, protection and full respect of the human rights of people of African descent". UNIFEED

On International Day of UN Peacekeepers, Peacekeeping Chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix said United Nations peacekeepers, despite challenges, “preserve ceasefires from collapse” and “protect every single day hundreds of thousands of civilians.” UNIFEED

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said the adoption in Uganda of draconian new legislation targeting lesbian, gay and bisexual people was devastating and deeply disturbing, and called on President Yoweri Museveni not to promulgate it into law. OHCHR
