Hawaye Ibrahim, escaped to Chad to find safety for her children, after her husband was shot and killed in Sudan’s Darfur region. Fighting in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, has quickly spread to Darfur in recent weeks displacing tens of thousands of people. UNHCR

South Sudan has seen an influx in people arriving in the country to escape conflict in Sudan. At least 46,000 South Sudanese have gone back home to the country they once fled. UNHCR and partners are providing new arrivals with food, water, blankets, mats and buckets, as well as emergency medical treatment. UNHCR

As a record-breaking 148,000 people have crossed the perilous Darien jungle in early 2023, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is increasing efforts to provide humanitarian assistance, protection, and information to people in transit, and supporting remote indigenous host communities, by scaling its presence at the borders with Colombia and Costa Rica, and in Panama City. The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is rapidly scaling up its emergency operations in Sudan, every day reaching thousands more people whose lives have been upended by the ongoing fighting. WFP

The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has deployed teams and, with partners, has rushed to deliver aid to new arrivals in Chad who are escaping conflict in Sudan. Another 30,000 refugees have been monitored arriving in recent days in Chad, bringing the total number moving from Sudan to Chad in recent weeks to 60,000. UNHCR

The UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR and partners scale up aid efforts to reach more people escaping conflict in Sudan. Over 30,000 refugees have so far been verified, physically counted and identified in Chad as registration exercises continue. UNHCR

UNICEF is advocating for safe passage for children and their families trapped in conflict areas and is working to provide supplies and services, including water, critical health care, vaccine, access to basic supplies and services, emergency supplies, child protection and mental health support to those who have been affected by the conflict. The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) estimates that 860,000 will flee Sudan. In South Sudan, many arrivals are very vulnerable, exhausted and in need of immediate assistance. UNCHR

Hundreds of thousands of refugees are fleeing fighting in Sudan to Chad, South Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia and the Central African Republic. In Egypt, aid is being delivered by the UN and distributed by the Egyptian Red Crescent to those who arrive, including water, hygiene and sanitary kits, latrines wheelchairs, food and medical assistance.
