A recent workshop in South Sudan’s capital, Juba, aimed to strengthen capacities among the National Police’s Steering Committee and focal points in all of the country’s ten states to prevent, respond to and investigate this scourge. UNIFEED

The United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial meeting kicked off today in Accra, Ghana. Delegates from more than 85 countries discussed a number of issues related to peacekeeping operations, notably environmental management and how to advance the Women, Peace and Security agenda, a UN Spokesperson said. A UN spokesperson said that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) “notes with concern that exchanges of fire across the Blue Line continued throughout the weekend, with reports that people were injured on both sides of the border.” UNIFEED

The UN Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative for Somalia, Anita Kiki Gbeho, congratulated the Somali Government "for reaching significant milestones in the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities.” UNSOM

In the capital of South Sudan’s Western Equatoria state, Yambio, children marched, danced, performed dramas and recited powerful poetry while handing over their petition demanding better protection of their rights as they marked World Children’s Day, globally commemorated on 20 November every year. UNMISS

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that the African Union (AU) is the world body’s “most important” strategic partnership, reiterating that “we must work with the African Union based on the principle of African-led solutions for African problems in all dimensions, peace and security, development, climate change.” UNIFEED

The Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) said, “Looking ahead, it would be impossible to envision free, fair, and credible elections in December 2024, unless all South Sudanese parties, leaders, and stakeholders grab the bull by the horns, and agree on a critical mass of decisions by the first quarter of 2024.” UNMISS
