As South Sudan grapples with multiple challenges, Nicholas Haysom, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of UNMISS, urged political leaders to galvanize momentum in peace processes so that free, fair, and credible elections can be held on time. UNMISS

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sudan, Volker Perthes, said that the increased suffering of the people in the country “is not a result of aid organizations not being there or aid organizations not doing anything. The Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said, “While sporadic military incidents continue to occur, levels of hostilities are significantly lower than before the truce.” UNIFEED

Like many countries across the African continent, South Sudan has a larger population of women than men. However, civil war, unceasing conflict and cultural barriers have combined, to ensure that women continue to be under-represented in public life. UNMISS

The High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Christian Schmidt said, “I see encouraging developments in post-conflict Bosnia and Herzegovina, but I also see profound threats to the fundamental of the peace agreement.” UNIFEED

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia told the Security Council that “in recent days, the Government has made clear through additional actions its commitment to the Final Agreement.” UNIFEED

Briefing reporters on the situation in Central African Republic, a UN spokesperson said, “our peacekeeping mission there, continues to provide the government with technical, financial, logistical and security support to advance the national disarmament, demobilization, reintegration, and repatriation process – which is a key component of the peace agreement.” UNIFEED
