Confirming that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued 4 warrants related to the prosecution of crimes in Libya and submitted requests for two more, prosecutor Karim Khan told the Security Council, “Warrants are not an end in themselves, but they are an important step in the rights of victims and survivors that their lives matter to you.” UNIFEED

The Council is scheduled to receive the biannual briefing of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor, Karim Asad Ahmad Khan, on the ICC's Libya-related activities.

United States Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield told reporters in New York, “as Russia takes on the presidency of the Security Council, we will use every opportunity to push back on their using their perch in the chair to spread disinformation, and to use their chair to push support of their efforts. So it’s for that reason today that we have opposed their Arria-formula briefer, a woman who has been charged with war crimes.” UNIFEED

Asked about the International Criminal Court (ICC)’s issue of an arrest warrant on President Putin in the context of the situation in Ukraine, Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya said, “what they did doesn't make us closer to any resolution of the current crisis we are living in.” UNIFEED

The UN Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Libya expressed deep concern in its final report about the country’s deteriorating human rights situation.
