The UN General Assembly adopted a political declaration to renew commitment and accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction up to 2030. UNIFEED

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, Mami Mizutori, said, “Now is the time really to start to work on the root causes of disasters.” UNIFEED

Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke at Viet Nam’s Meteorological and Hydrological Administration about disaster preparedness and said the goal is to have early warning systems in all countries of the world within five years, “to end the tragedy of people dying, livelihoods being destroyed, because people did not know that tragedy was unfolding.” UN VIET NAM

Speaking at the Multi-Hazard Early Warning Conference in Bali, Indonesia, Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed on Monday said, “we need to do more, especially for the most vulnerable, to incorporate disaster risk in how we live, build, and invest.” UNDRR
