COVID-19 has disrupted all forms of human mobility through the closing of national borders and halting of travel worldwide. Preliminary estimates suggest that the pandemic may have slowed the growth in the stock of international migrants by around two million by mid- 2020, 27 per cent less than the growth expected since mid-2019, according to a report by the United Nations released today. A special event entitled "Celebrating Older Human Rights Champions" was held at UN headquarters on the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons (1 October).

First Plenary Meeting of Ninth Working Session of Open-ended Working Group on Ageing for the purpose of strengthening the protection of the human rights of older persons. The working group considered the existing international framework of the human rights of older persons and identified possible gaps and how best to address them, including by considering, as appropriate, the feasibility of further instruments and measures.
