High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, met virtually with Chinese President Xi Jinping. She made these opening remarks and said it was “a priority to engage with the government of China directly to see how we can collaborate on human rights issues domestically, regional and global.” OHCHR

In a historic declaration at COP26, global leaders including Xi Jinping, Joe Biden and Jair Bolsonaro signed the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forest and Land Use, committing countries to halt and reverse global deforestation over the next decade as part of a multibillion-dollar package to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Chinese President Xi said, “Democracy is not a special right reserved to an individual country, but a right for the people of all countries to enjoy,” adding that recent global developments show once again that “military intervention from the outside and so-called democratic transformation entail nothing but harm.” UNIFEED
