On the last day of his visit to Cabo Verde, Secretary-General António Guterres addressed the Ocean Race Summit in Mindelo, saying that “ending the ocean emergency is a race we must win, and by working as one, it’s a race we can win.” UNIFEED

Secretary-General António Guterres, actor and ocean activist Jason Momoa, and the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, gathered at Carcavelos Beach, in Portugal, with youth delegates from all over the world, kickstarting the Ocean Conference that will take place this week in Lisbon. The President of the General Assembly convenes a high-level thematic debate on the ocean and Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water, with the support of the Governments of Portugal and Kenya – co-hosts of the 2nd United Nations Ocean Conference, as well as H.E. Mr. Peter Thomson, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Ocean, to generate momentum towards the Conference in Lisbon, when public health safety measures allow.
