The United Nations top official in Mali told the Security Council that “the time has come for Malian leaders to rise above partisan politics and personal interests and work together in earnest to address the crisis in the interest of their country and its future.” UNIFEED

Peacekeeping Chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix said “this is a time of extreme challenges and danger for all Mali and the region,” expressing concern that the arrest Monday of President Bah N’Daw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane along with other leaders of the transitional government, “might further undermine jeopardize the joint efforts that we absolutely need to make to address those key challenges in Mali.” UNIFEED

The spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) reiterated “its strong condemnation of the arrest of President Bah N’Daw, and Prime Minister, Moctar Ouane, as well as some other of their colleagues,” stressing that “this action has serious consequences for Mali and the region as a whole.” UNIFEED
