The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Haiti, Helen La Lime, told the Security Council that efforts to unseat President Moïse, as well as actions taken by the Executive in reacting to an alleged coup attempt, and the announcement by a senior judge of his appointment as Haiti’s interim Head of State, “have further hardened the positions of the principal actors in the political crisis that has for too long affected the lives of the Haitian population.” UNIFEED

The United Nations top official in Haiti told the Security Council that the country is once again struggling with instability and said, “the widespread perception of impunity” can only be countered “by ensuring that the rights of victims of human rights violations and abuses are upheld and that perpetrators are held to account.” UNIFEED

UN Special Representative for Haiti Helen La Lime said the COVID-19 pandemic was worsening the already dire economic and humanitarian situation in the country. She added, "In the absence of adequate resources to support Haiti's emergence from the recession in which it has plunged, the hard-won security and development gains achieved over the course of the past decade and a half risk coming undone.” UNIFEED
