The head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA), Abdou Abarry, told Security Council, “It is obvious that only a resolution of the crisis in Sudan will make it possible to address the humanitarian, economic, environmental and security situation in Chad and other countries, notably the Central African Republic.” UNIFEED

The Assistant Secretary-General for Africa, Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, told the Security Council that a decline in piracy and armed robbery at sea in the Gulf of Guinea “is due to the significant efforts of national authorities" as well as "the support of regional and international partners.” UNIFEED

Abdou Abarry, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Central Africa, told the Security Council that the region “is richer in opportunities and resources than it is in challenges.” UNIFEED

“Despite leadership losses and expenses that are diminishing its cash reserves, the threat posed by Da’esh to international peace and security remains high and has increased in and around conflict zones,” according to the new report on the threat posed by ISIL (Da’esh) to international peace and security.
