The UN top official for Africa warned the Security Council that the security situation in the Sahel has remained “very worrying”, with “non-state armed groups continue to carry out large-scale attacks against civilian and military targets, and to engage in confrontations over access to resources, territorial control, and influence.” UNIFEED

The number of people experiencing acute food insecurity and requiring urgent food and livelihood assistance increased for the fourth consecutive year in 2022, with over a quarter of a billion facing acute hunger and with people in seven countries on the brink of starvation and death, says the latest report on acute hunger released Wednesday.
