Hawaye Ibrahim, escaped to Chad to find safety for her children, after her husband was shot and killed in Sudan’s Darfur region. Fighting in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, has quickly spread to Darfur in recent weeks displacing tens of thousands of people. UNHCR

As heavy fighting continues, UN humanitarians warned on Friday that more than one million people have now been forced to flee for their lives. UNTV CH

South Sudan has seen an influx in people arriving in the country to escape conflict in Sudan. At least 46,000 South Sudanese have gone back home to the country they once fled. With the conflict in Sudan entering its second month, the United Nations and its partners today called for US$3 billion to help millions of people in the country and hundreds of thousands fleeing to neighbouring countries. UNHCR

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warned on Friday that cyclone Mocha has intensified very quickly in the warm waters of the Bay of Bengal and could bring major impacts both ahead and after landfall for potentially hundreds of thousands of the world’s most vulnerable people when it hits Myanmar and Bangladesh this weekend. Following a visit to Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia, Alfonso Herrera, Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, called for more support for the millions of people who have been affected by the war. UNHCR

Hundreds of thousands of refugees are fleeing fighting in Sudan to Chad, South Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia and the Central African Republic. In Egypt, aid is being delivered by the UN and distributed by the Egyptian Red Crescent to those who arrive, including water, hygiene and sanitary kits, latrines wheelchairs, food and medical assistance.
