UN Secretary-General António Guterres told the Security Council that he invoked Article 99 of the UN Charter because we are “at a breaking point,” warning that there is a high risk of the total collapse of the humanitarian support system in Gaza, which would have devastating consequences. UNIFEED

Invoking a rarely used article of the UN Charter, Secretary-General António Guterres called on the Security Council to “press to avert a humanitarian catastrophe” in Gaza and appealed for a humanitarian ceasefire to be declared. UNIFEED

A recent workshop in South Sudan’s capital, Juba, aimed to strengthen capacities among the National Police’s Steering Committee and focal points in all of the country’s ten states to prevent, respond to and investigate this scourge. UNIFEED

A top UN official said that in Ukraine, “intensifying Russian attacks on the country’s energy facilities, amidst heavy snow and freezing temperatures, are worsening the dire humanitarian conditions across the country.” UNIFEED
