The Technical Secretariat of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons’ (OPCW) efforts to organize the next round of consultations with Syria continue to be unsuccessful, a senior official of the United Nations for Disarmament Affairs told the Security Council, stressing that full cooperation by Damascus is essential to closing its chemical weapons file.

Deputy High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Adedeji Ebo, told the Security Council that the Technical Secretariat of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) “has yet to receive from the Syrian Arab Republic, any declarations or document requested.” UNIFEED

The coordinator of the Investigation and Identification Team (IIT) created to identify perpetrators of chemical attacks in Syria told the Security Council that “the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian Arab Republic is solely of the responsibility of the Armed Forces of the Syrian Arab Republic.” UNIFEED
