The human toll of Myanmar’s human rights crisis is mounting as armed conflict escalates and spreads, UN High Commissioner Volker Türk warned as he repeated a call for the situation in Myanmar as a whole to be referred to the International Criminal Court. UNTV CH

The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, told the Security Council, “There are grounds to believe that presently Rome Statute crimes are being committed in Darfur by both the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces affiliated groups.” UNIFEED

Joint stakeout by the members of the Security Council that are State Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (Ecuador, France, Guyana, Malta, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom) , delivered by representatives of Japan and Switzerland, following the Security Council meeting on Sudan and South Sudan.

The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Ahmad Khan, told the Security Council that since the implementation of the renewed strategy for action on the situation in Libya in April of 2022, the ICC has “continued to accelerate” investigative activities and expects to complete them by the end of 2025. Siobhán Mullally, Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, warned, “We continue to see impunity. And the consequence of that is a failure to ensure access to justice for victims to effective remedies, and in particular, continued failures of prevention of trafficking in persons in armed conflict.” UNIFEED

The United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education, Gordon Brown, said, “denial of education to Afghan girls and employment to Afghan women is gender discrimination, which should count as a crime against humanity” to be prosecuted by the International Criminal Court (ICC). UNIFEED
