The General Assembly adopted by consensus a resolution requesting for an advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the obligations of States in respect of climate change. UNIFEED

The Secretary-General took note of the Orders of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), issued on 22 February, in the proceedings between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. He welcomed “the trust that the Governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan have placed in the ICJ by asking it to resolve their differences,” said a UN Spokesperson. UNIFEED

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said, “the rule of law is foundational to the United Nation,” reiterating that the Security Council has “a vital role in upholding it.” UNIFEED

Addressing the General Assembly today on the case submitted to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) by Ukraine against the Russian Federation, the ICJ President said that the Court concluded that Ukraine had a “plausible right not to be subjected to military operations by the Russian Federation for the purpose of preventing and punishing an alleged genocide in the territory of Ukraine.” UNIFEED
