According to a new UN report, prospects for a robust global economic recovery remain dim amid stubborn inflation, rising interest rates, and heightened uncertainties. UNIFEED

Of the roughly 140 targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), only about 10 percent are on track to be reached by 2030, close to half are moderately or severely off track, and some 30 percent have either seen no movement or regressed below the 2015 baseline, according to a new UN report. The Head of the Population Division of the United Nations said, “India is projected to overtake China as the world's most populous country during the current month, April of 2023.” UNIFEED

Marking the International Mother Earth Day, the President of the General Assembly said, “As humans, we are latecomers, new tenants of this world. Tenants with short term leases but with particular responsibilities.” UNIFEED

Briefing reporters on the closing of the UN 2023 Water Conference, Henk Ovink, Special Envoy for International Water Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, said, “We've been working very hard on getting this conference right. After the conference, the world has to continue working hard to get water right.” UNIFEED

A UN official said, “Water action can increase food security and equality between genders. Water action keeps children in school, communities at peace, and nature healthy. The time to act is now.” UNIFEED

Presenting the Secretary-General’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) stimulus plan, the Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Achim Steiner said the plan “calls for a measurable increase in resources available to combat the current crisis of at least 500 billion dollars a year through expanded lending, and potentially over 1.8 trillion.” UNIFEED
