The top UN political affairs official Rosemary DiCarlo urged the Security Council to offer more support for African Union (AU) peace operations, saying that “those missions demonstrated significant political will and commitment, but they also faced some recurrent problems.” UNIFEED

UN Secretary-General António Guterres told the Security Council that he is “deeply concerned by the gains terrorist groups are making in the Sahel and elsewhere,” reiterating that “just as terrorism drives people apart, countering it can bring countries together.” UNIFEED

On the margins of the United Nations 2023 Water conference an African Union (AU) official said, “the strategic importance” of water “places it in the frontline of national interest,” and can be “a veritable tool for both economic growth and stability.” UNIFEED

Secretary-General António Guterres said “Africa is poised for progress,” but faces “enormous tests” on “almost every front.” UN ECA
