Informal meeting on the joint Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposal

Addressing the General Assembly's informal thematic debate on the road to Rio+20, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that "we need a fundamental re-think of our current economic model and new tools, such as green economy policies and strategies," but he said the current pace of negotiations is sending all the wrong signals. At an informal meeting today by member states on the draft document outcome Rio+20, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that his participation was not meant to be imposing, "but I do want to light a fire. I want to remind you of the urgency of our task. It is time to look at - indeed worry about - the big picture." UNTV

As delegates continue negotiating the outcome agreement document for the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), Sha Zukang, the Conference's Secretary-General, said that "Rio + 20 is where decisions on the future of our planet, our economies, and our livelihoods for the next 10 or 20 years are going to be made" and stated that "the future of our planet is at stake, the survival of making is at stake."
