STORYLINE:
South Sudan's president, Salva Kiir, and Sudan’s Omar al-Bashir agreed on Tuesday at a summit in Juba to expedite the formation of the Abyei Administration, its legislative council and the area police.
Bashir reiterated his country's commitment to all agreements signed with South Sudan along with bilateral understandings aimed at boosting ties and realizing the aspirations of the two peoples.
The Sudanese president further renewed his country's willingness to work with South Sudan to remove all the barriers hindering the movement of the citizens and trade between the two sides.

The two principals reaffirmed their commitment to fully implement the nine cooperation agreements signed on September 27th, 2012 in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
The leaders also agreed to expedite the identification of a zero line to create a safe demarcated border zone along the shared border before mid-November. An agreement was also reached to speed up the opening of border crossings and an integrated border management mechanism to facilitate the movement of people and goods.

In a statement, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon welcomed the holding of a summit between the presidents and took note of the two presidents’ intent to expedite the establishment of the Abyei Administration, Abyei Council and Abyei Police Service. He also welcomed their decision to accelerate the full establishment of the Safe Demilitarized Border Zone by mid‑November.
