Description
President Csaba Kőrösi is this hour at the United Nations International School, where he is lecturing students about sustainable development – with a focus on pandemic prevention, water, and energy issues.
Earlier today, the President convened a special event on the occasion of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development.
The event included experts from research institutions in Europe, Latin-America and Africa.nbsp;nbsp;
In his opening remarks, the President called for basic sciences to be brought out of the shadows.
He said they lead a hidden existence in universities, labs, described in language not used by us.
But we need them – especially for achieving and measuring sustainability.
The basic sciences offer an essential means to revolutionize how we address food, energy and health care.
So it is essential that the role and potential of the basic sciences is better understood by policy makers around the world.
Especially the issue of science in the political decision-shaping processes of the General Assembly.
In his remarks, the President also commended the Group of Friends of Science for Action, which if you remember was launched by Belgium, India and South Africa.
At the time, Serbia announced an initiative for the General Assembly to declare the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainability.
