Description
The President of the United Nations General Assembly,nbsp;Csabanbsp;Kőrösi, will undertake an official visit to Vienna, Austria from 21-23 May, to highlight the importance of rule of law, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, and sustainability issues.
The President's visit coincides with the 32ndnbsp;Session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) – the UN's principal policymaking body in the fields of crime prevention and criminal justice. The President of the General Assembly will participate in the opening on the first day, 22 May.
nbsp;That same day, President Kőrösi will take part in a "Special Event on Achieving SDG16, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions", convened by H.E. Ms. Mary Mugwanja, Chair of the 32nd Session of the CCPCJ and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kenya to the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).
The President will also visit the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Laboratories in Seibersdorf, and receive a briefing by the IAEA Deputy Director-General on nuclear safety and security issues, as well as the IAEA's work on sustainability.
On 23 May, President Kőrösi is expected to attend a joint session with the program directors at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), and to meet with IIASA Director-General Albert Van Jaasveld. These engagements will cover climate, energy and water issues, with particular emphasis on implementing the outcomes of the 2023 UN Water Conference, including a Global Water Information System.
President Kőrösi will have discussions with Alexander Schallenberg, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria. Topics to be raised will include global and regional security issues, including UN Security Council reform, and the role of the General Assembly in uniting the international community to promote the rule of law.
Among other senior officials with whom President Kőrösi will meet on the visit are Dr. Robert Floyd, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO); Ms. Ghada Waly, UNOV Director-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime; and H.E. Mr. Miguel Camilo Ruiz Blanco, Permanent Representative of Colombia and Chair of the 66th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs.
The President will travel with three personnel from his Office including the Chef de Cabinet, Mr. László Szőke. The trip is paid for by the OPGA Trust Fund. All efforts are made to keep the President's trips as cost-, time- and environmentally-efficient as possible.
