“I just want to say that lastly, one of the things that we've been really advocating for is wetland city accreditation. Because biodiversity just does not remain in the wild. Biodiversity is within our city. And this wetland accreditation mechanism started in 2015. And we have different cities around the world, Sackville in Canada, Kigali Rwanda, we've got the city of Sichuan in Korea, we've got Wuhan, many cities south in France, several cities, and what we're beginning to see is that when wetlands are restored within a city space, is better quality of water being supplied. But also, I was in Kigali recently last December where we noticed that more birds beginning to breed inside of the city in urban spaces. And also for mental health, for clean air and for cooling for the city due to heating.”

"Countries need to translate the global plan to national targets," said David Cooper, Acting Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity
David Cooper (Convention on Biological Diversity) and Dr. Musonda Mumba (Ramsar Convention on Wetlands) briefed journalists today (23 Mar) in New York on the coordinated manner in which the two Conventions will work to implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and the Ramsar Strategic Plan.
Cooper said, “We currently spend an order of magnitude more destroying nature that we do protecting it. That is a target to reduce harmful subsidies for biodiversity by at least 500 million a year by 2030.”
He continued, “Countries, member states need to translate this global plan to national targets important place the laws, policies and programs, the activities on the ground to implement those targets. We only have seven years. This work needs begin now, needs to involve everyone. It needs to be a whole of government, whole of society approach.”
Musona Mumba, the Secretary General, Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, said, “We have no time. We're running out of time because we've seen how the manifestation of wetland loss we've already lost within 33 percent of wetland surfaces and in fact we are losing wetlands three times faster than forest.”
She also shared some positive results, “I just want to say that lastly, one of the things that we've been really advocating for is wetland city accreditation.
