Ambassadors from Malta, Mozambique, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today (21 Mar) announced a joint commitment to prioritize climate, peace and security during in their respective terms at the Security Council.

Talking to reporters outside the Council, the UAE Ambassador, Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, said here is no doubt that climate change is the defining challenge of our time. There is no true security, in our views without climate security.”

Malta’s Ambassador Vanessa Frazier, for her part said, “ass an island state, we are acutely aware of how ocean related climate security risks can uproot communities, destroy areas of land and threaten the existence of entire countries.”
