Tomorrow, 10 January, Member States will meet in the Trusteeship Council Chamber for informal consultations on the high-level meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.
Then this Thursday, 12 January, Member States will meet in informal consultations on the preparatory process leading to the high- level meeting on tuberculosis. This meeting will take place during this year’s UNGA.
In terms of the President’s schedule.
You heard from him on 30 December when the UN budget was adopted.
Last week, he was working from his office.
Among his bilaterals, he met with the 2023 Water Conference Sherpa, Henk Ovink. The topic was obviously water action.
This weekend, he took part in an early celebration of the Lunar New Year at the Lincoln Center with the iSING! Suzhou International Young Artist Festival and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
The President said that the diverse group of musicians embodies what it meant to cross cultures and to build bridges among communities. And that there is no more important message for diplomacy today that those of connection, understanding and appreciation.
This week, the President will continue to have bilaterals and meeting with co-facilitators and groups of permanent representatives.
Two speeches this week that might be of interest.
On Wednesday, 11 January, the President will deliver the keynote address to the Stockholm Environment Institute. The focus will be on risks and opportunities related to climate and governance as we begin 2023.
On Thursday, 12 January, he will address the Columbia University Model UN Conference and Exposition. This is the first of several discussions that the President will have this month with students and faculty at universities.
You will have seen the announcement of a new cohort of Youth Fellows.
Our office is welcoming six young professionals – three women and three men – from Africa, the Asia-Pacific area, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Specifically, from Armenia, Botswana, Cuba, Maldives, Rwanda and Samoa.
The Fellows were selected from 42 applicants by an independent panel comprised of a Member States, a UN representative and civil society.
The Fellowship is development in partnership with the UN Institute for Training and Research.
On Tuesday, 17 January, President Kőrösi will brief Member States on his priorities for the resumed part of the 77th session. This will be at 10AM ET in the Trusteeship.
Then on Thursday, 19 January, President Kőrösi and ECOSOC President Lachezara Stoeva will jointly brief on their priorities and plans for the next nine months.
The next plenary meeting of the General Assembly is scheduled for Monday, 6 February, which will be a briefing by the Secretary-General on his priorities for the year.
The Spokesperson was asked if there has been any movement on a possible Special Tribunal related to Ukraine. The Spokesperson said she had nothing to announce.
The Spokesperson was asked about Vanuatu and others Member States’ campaign to bring the issue of climate justice to the ICJ. The Spokesperson said that she would follow up.
